Iron Roots Urban Farm, a project of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, is a 1.7 acre working farm and training center located at 820 Canfield Road on the south side of Youngstown.
Iron Roots Urban Farm grows fresh produce in an urban neighborhood, encourages urban farming and gardening on vacant land, and teaches neighbors about growing food and healthy lifestyles.
In 2017, YNDC is launching a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. The farm will provide a box of fresh produce in seasonal varieties to subscribers each week for 20 weeks (June 13 - October 31). Pickup locations will be Tuesday afternoons at the Idora Neighborhood Farmers’ Market, Warren Farmers’ Market, and at Catullo Prime Meats in Boardman. If you want to learn more about the program, click here.
YNDC also supports the Idora Neighborhood Farmers’ Market, located at 2600 Glenwood Avenue. The market runs June - the first week in October on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30pm - 7pm. The market is for food producers and preparers including fresh produce, baked goods, and food trucks. Handmade craft vendors are also welcome at the market on select days, and markets frequently feature children’s activities, cooking demonstrations, and other learning opportunities. This market accepts WIC, SNAP, and Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program vouchers. The market also features the Youngstown Double-Up program, which makes health food more affordable by doubling SNAP dollars at markets.
