It’s the middle of the afternoon and the
Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator is a hive of activity: Chefs dice produce, cooks
prepare barbecue and bakers set bread and pastries out ready for that day’s
farmers market.

The city of Youngstown has a new weapon in its arsenal to
combat urban blight.

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development
Corp. had a busy second quarter as the organization hosted 11 community
workdays, sold six rehabilitated houses and launched the Iron Roots Community
Supported Agriculture program to provide fresh produce to members. 

It’s been just over a year since
the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation took over its largest
property yet — renovating the first house the city ever seized through new spot
blight laws.

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will host its
monthly meeting Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd.
