Join us for the Greater Glenwood Neighborhoods Open House on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m.

South Side residents are invited to attend an open house hosted by YNDC to share feedback, hear updates, and help shape the future of the Glenwood Avenue corridor.

Residents of Idora, Indian Village, Newport, Warren, and Oak Hill are strongly encouraged to attend and spread the word to your neighbors. Attendees can expect updates on new construction activity along the corridor, ongoing improvement efforts, and opportunities to weigh in on what comes next.

Where: Jaylex Center | 2110 Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown

Ke'Andre Cundiff is a Grass Cutting and Clean Up Team Member for the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation. Ke'Andre collaborates with a team of professional and labor staff in the implementation of large scale grass cutting and clean up of vacant homes, boarding of vacant housing, vacant lot management, basic construction, and other field and maintenance projects to improve the quality of life in strategic Youngstown neighborhoods.

The City of New Castle is looking to partner with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation to help with securing grants for economic development.

State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) Friday announced that she was chosen as the Ohio Healthy Homes Network (OHHN) Legislator of the Year. This award was presented to Rep. McNally at OHHN’s annual conference in Gahanna, Ohio. The conference united public health officials, community leaders, property owners, and health professionals in the fight against lead poisoning.

“I am honored to be named Legislator of the Year by OHHN. Having a home, one that you worked so hard for, that is safe is so important to the health and happiness of the people I serve. I will continue to advocate for lead abatement training and lead abatement programs so that every home that needs it can be served. I would love to see the end of lead poisoning in our community. I would love to see all of us living healthier and happier lives in safe, lead free homes,” said Rep. McNally.

Mahoning County has a high percentage of homes built before 1980 and could have lead paint, glass, pipes, or other traces of lead. In 2024, there were 189 Mahoning County children with confirmed elevated blood lead levels. The best way to prevent lead poisoning is to either to completely rid the home of lead or do lead abatement that will make the home non-toxic. Lead poisoning can be devastating for a child’s development. Mahoning County has a few programs that help with lead abatement. These include, but are not limited to:

Community Housing Impact and Preservation Program (CHIP) – Mahoning County Commissioners
Home Repairs and Maintenance – Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation

Mahoning Valley TreeCorps (TreeCorps) has completed its spring tree planting. The most recent work of TreeCorps has resulted in the planting of 502 trees. More updates will be provided in the coming months.  

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation will host a public open house on Tuesday to discuss a comprehensive plan for neighborhoods along the Glenwood Avenue corridor.

More than 125 neighbors attended the Greater Glenwood Neighborhoods Open House on Tuesday, May 12, at the Jaylex Event Center. 

The open house provided an opportunity for residents of the Greater Glenwood Neighborhoods to provide feedback on strategies developed for a neighborhood plan that will guide further development over the next ten years. The strategies presented were grounded in a listening campaign that involved visiting more than 2,400 households in the planning area. The campaign resulted in hundreds of households providing detailed feedback on their priorities for the future of the neighborhood. A final plan will be released in the summer of 2026.
