Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) today announced a partnership between the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) and AmeriCrops National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC).
According to NCCC, the team will assist the YDNC in preparing vacant homes for renovation or boarding them up for safety. The NCCC team will clean up trash and debris, as well as overgrowth from vacant properties and public spaces, and improve public spaces by repairing fences, cleaning up sidewalks, painting building exteriors, and landscaping. The team will also work on basic renovation and maintenance projects at the Youngstown Playhouse, such as painting and installing a new theater ceiling.
“The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation does amazing, transformative work for our community. This partnership with AmeriCorps will further YNDC’s mission to improving neighborhoods and the quality of life for residents of Youngstown. This type of collaboration not only lifts up distressed communities but gets young people involved in the process as well. I’m grateful to YNDC and AmeriCorps for their dedication and commitment to making Youngstown a better place to live,” said Congressman Ryan.
“YNDC is excited to host the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Oak 3 team from March 12 until April 25. The team will be working to clean up vacant properties in the Newport neighborhood, complete improvement projects along the Glenwood Avenue corridor, and assist community partners with facility improvements. Many thanks to AmeriCorps NCCC, City of Youngstown, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, The Youngstown Playhouse, and other partners for making this possible,” said Ian Beniston, YNDC Executive Director.
