SitemapLocal businesses will have an opportunity to explore contracts with government agencies, municipalities and other organizations during the second annual Connector event Sept. 23.
The Minority Business Assistance Center at the YBI will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County.
Connector brings buyers and suppliers together to help business owners better understand procurement, the process organizations use to purchase products and services.
“Procurement is a big word for a lot of people, but really it just means doing business with an organization,” said Tanisha Wheeler, regional director of the Minority Business Assistance Center. “It’s understanding what your business needs to have aligned in order to fulfill a contract or obtain a contract.”
The event will include resource tables, a panel discussion and a breakout session featuring organizations with active bids. Business owners will be able to ask representatives about available contracts and the requirements needed to compete for them, including insurance coverage, certifications and operating standards.
Participating organizations will include Youngstown State University, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio Department of Development, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp., Western Reserve Transit Authority and YSU’s APEX Accelerator.
